Super Rod and Kew Technik believe that many of the successes associated with great product development derive from initial ideas by 'sparkys on the tools'. So the companies have joined forces to sponsor a new labour saving competition called BIG IDEA.

The competition will offer those people with creative and innovative thoughts the opportunity to present their product ideas to a panel of experts. The entries will be reviewed and those innovators who are successful will be assisted in producing, launching and taking their product to market.

A perfect example of BIG IDEA is the Kew Technik Blade Runner, an SWA wire-stripping tool that was developed as a result of a conversation with an electrical contractor and within a year, thousands have been sold.

At the Electrical Industry Awards 2008, held at The Marriott, Grosvenor Square, London, on 29 October, Kew Technik Blade Runner, a tool introduced in a blaze of publicity by The Kew Technik Group late in 2007, won Innovative Industrial Product of the Year together with the ultimate accolade of Overall Innovative Product of the Year.

This massive success came as no surprise as it is rare that real innovation takes place in the tools sector. However, The Kew Technik Group followed through a great idea by electrician Mick Maguire and developed this amazing little tool that quickly and accurately strips Steel Wire Armoured cable (SWA).

It is well known that working with SWA can be time consuming and laborious. Cutting steel wire with a sharp hacksaw is not easy and getting that final result perfectly straight, right round the circumference of the cable can be even more difficult.

Kew Technik Blade Runner gives complete confidence in the knowledge that a perfectly straight cut with no ragged edges will render the cable ready for safe termination to glands or fittings in no time at all.

Emblazoned with the Kew Technik and Socket & See logos our balloon is now being seen in skies all over the UK as a reminder to the industry that exciting new products are shortly to be launched.
